Puppet manipulation with Johanna Ehlert and Anthony Mathieu

The workshop is an immersion in the world of puppetry. We will work on the fundamental techniques of manipulation and relationship between manipulator and puppet and on how to initiate communication by using fortuitous gesture.

Furthermore we will examine how to create our own monsters when studying the matter and the dynamics of the object. This laboratory is also an introduction to the laboratory “Nature morte”, planned for the autumn 2020, during which we will work on the relationship between living matter and dead matter. Johanna Ehlert is coming from Germany and studied at the “Le Lido” circus arts center in Toulouse. She continued her artistic development expanding her expertise to the production of costumes, masks and puppets. She co-founded the Boustrophédon and the Blick Théâtre Company based in Toulouse, France. She also designs and manufactures puppets for other companies. She speaks German, French and English.

She worked, among others, with Raphaël Navarro for a staging of “Faust” from the Comédie Française (released March 2018), François Morel for a tribute to Raymond Devos (released May 2018) and Cirque du Soleil (release May 2020).

Anthony Mathieu studied in Annie Fratellini circus school in Paris, specializing in juggling and equilibrists. He continued his artistic development in Toulouse (FR) expanding in the techniques of puppetry, masque, popping and theater lightening.

Since 2014 his work focuses in directing new age circus and dance oriented projects, such as: Tersicorea danza (IT), Zerogrammi dancetheater (IT), Café de las Artes Teatro (ES), CAU Centro d’Artes Urbanas (ES), Sara Angius (AL), etc…

Since 2011, he teaches creative laboratories of object manipulation in the CAU National Circus School of Granada, Spain. He speaks French, Spanish, Italian, English
