Call: CircusNext PLaTFoRM 2018-2021

CircusNext PLaTFoRM was selected by Creative Europe to focus on the contemporary circus sector across Europe and is one of only thirteen funded Platforms across all art forms.

CircusNext is a European Circus Label, which aims to identify and support emerging creators. It is carries out by a large European Platform of about 30 partners representing 17 countries. circusnext proposes and artistic selection based on criteria of singularity and excellence, as well as a support program to creation and touring across Europe.

The objectives of the CircusNext PLaTFoRM are:

  • to identify and promote emerging creators of contemporary circus who are selected on criteria of excellence and singularity
  • to facilitate the internationalization of their professional trajectories by showcasing their work abroad, developing their network, encountering professionals during their creation process
  • to raise awareness of audiences and policy makers on the diversity of writings existing in Europe and break the circus clichés, to promote the notion of authorship/creatorship

The overall Creative Europe Platform programme objectives are:

  • Promoting emerging artists and stimulating a truly European programming of cultural and artistic works
  • Fostering the mobility and visibility of emerging creators and artists from abroad
  • Stimulating a genuine Europe-wide programming of cultural and artistic activities
  • Contributing to audience development and providing visibility to Europe’s values and different cultures
  • Implementing a communication and branding strategy, including the development of a European quality label

New funds from Creative Europe have been secured to cover CircusNext activities running from 2018 to 2021. A growing network of now seven platform members in the German speaking countries is dedicated to support emerging creators of contemporary circus. The new CircusNext PLaTFoRM 2019 Open Call for projects is now live!
We are delighted to be working as part of the team to launch this new cycle of identification and support of original and creative emerging circus creators in Europe. The on-line portal can be used by all applicants across Europe. Details can be found here: www.circusnext.eu/application. The deadline for application is 7 June 2019 at noon French time (12:00) GMT+1.
 
As before all DE / AT / CH applications will be handled by eight judges who will score the applications against the set criteria for CircusNext and offer additional comments by way of feedback to applicants. DE / AT / CH applications will be selected by the jury and sent to the Paris office as the „DE / AT / CH selected companies.“ These files will then reviewed by all of the CircusNext European Jury Members and from these the 12 final „Pre-selected“ companies from across Europe will be chosen. After performances by each of the 12 “Pre-Selected companies” at Domelhof in Neerpelt, six Laureates will be selected by the CircusNext European Jury. The Laureates receive a €10,000 grant, residencies, mentoring and assistance. They are also hosted by PLaTFoRM Members to present work-in-progress performances and residencies and are invited to present a 30-minute extract of their future show at an international Showcase in Paris in 2021.

European Pre-selection (on written applications) by the CircusNext European Jury: 14 and 15 November 2019
Selection Week (live performances of scratch pieces) with the CircusNext European Jury: 11 to 16 May 2020
Laureates Public Presentations in Paris: 21 to 23 January 2021

A new element of this Edition of CircusNext is that CircusNext PLaTFoRM Partners host the „work-in-progress“ of either Pre-selected or completed shows from Laureate companies. Former Laureates will be performing already this year in different festivals in the German speaking countries.
