Performing Arts Festival Berlin | 25.-30.05.2021 | online

As part of the PAF 2021, we will meet for a ‘circus afternoon’ on Friday, May 28. The program includes a discussion on the subject of ‘flexibility, aesthetics and freedom of the contemporary circus‘ with Ana Jordão, Romy Seibt & För Künkel and a Roundtable Circus organized by BUZZ in partnership with the PAF.

This year, the opening of the performing Arts Festival will take place live from the Chamäleon Theater on May 25. All talks and the closing event will be broadcast live from the Circus Schatzinsel. We are pleased that Berlin circus places are so prominent in the PAF program!

More about the discussion:

Flexibility, Aesthetic and Open Space in Contemporary Circus
Ana Jordão, Romy Seibt & För Künkel
Live from PAF studio at Circus Schatzinsel

Flexibility and innovation are well known as basic characteristics of the circus. With touring circuses, a spatial flexibility was absolutely essential while a high level of technical requirements are closely connected with constant innovation in the history of circus. The field of contemporary circus transfers this flexibility into its aesthetic. The dissolving of the boundaries between genres and a critical handling of societal discourses are carried out using artistic means. The practices of the independent performing arts become especially clear, urgent and critical from the perspective of contemporary circus
